Tijdens het paasweekend verandert de gemeente Aa en Hunze opnieuw in een inspirerende kunstroute. Op zondag 5 en maandag 6 april 2026 openen diverse kunstenaars hun atelier of exposeren zij op bijzondere locaties in de regio. Een unieke kans om kunst van dichtbij te beleven – midden in het prachtige Drentse landschap.

Een inspirerende kunstroute door Aa en Hunze

De Kunstroute wordt georganiseerd door de Stichting Beeldend Kunstenaars Aa en Hunze en biedt een veelzijdig aanbod aan kunstvormen. U ontdekt onder andere:

• schilderkunst en fotografie
• beeldhouwwerk en sculpturen
• werken in gemengde technieken

Veel kunstenaars zijn persoonlijk aanwezig. Dat maakt een bezoek extra bijzonder: u krijgt niet alleen een indruk van het werk, maar ook inzicht in het creatieve proces en de verhalen erachter.

Bezoek beeldhouwer Wout Koppers op Boerhaarsveld

Ook dit jaar neemt beeldhouwer Wout Koppers weer deel aan de kunstroute. Het atelier van Wout Koppers bevindt zich op Bungalowpark Boerhaarsveld, in bungalow De Zwaluw (Warmenbossenweg 3a12, Schoonloo). Tijdens de kunstroute kunt u deze locatie eenvoudig bezoeken.

In zijn beelden staat vormgeving centraal. De sculpturen bewegen zich tussen herkenbaarheid en abstractie en verbeelden vaak menselijke verbondenheid. Hout speelt daarbij een belangrijke rol: elke houtsoort heeft een eigen structuur en karakter, wat zichtbaar terugkomt in het eindresultaat.

Tijdens de Kunstroute 2026 presenteert Wout Koppers onder andere het beeld “Wolkenridder”. Dit werk laat op een krachtige en tegelijkertijd ingetogen manier de balans zien tussen beweging en verstilling – een thema dat vaker terugkomt in zijn oeuvre.

Kunst beleven midden in de natuur

Wat een bezoek aan Boerhaarsveld tijdens de kunstroute zo bijzonder maakt, is de combinatie van kunst en omgeving. U wandelt of rijdt langs verschillende locaties in dorpen zoals Gieten, Eext, Gasteren en Schoonloo. Onderweg geniet u van bossen, heide en het open Drentse landschap. Zo ontstaat een dag waarin cultuur en ontspanning vanzelf samenkomen.

Not everyone seeks crowded attractions or full terraces during a vacation. In fact, more and more guests are coming to Drenthe to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Rest, space and nature are central here. From Bungalowpark Boerhaarsveld you will effortlessly discover quiet places where you can experience the province at its most relaxed.

🌲 Hiking areas where silence is still natural

Drenthe has many well-known natural areas, but it is precisely the less visited places that make a deep impression. Think of the Geeserstroom area, where you walk along streams, wooded banks and open fields without large streams of visitors. Also the Ellertsveld near Schoonoord is a beautiful area for a quiet walk, especially on weekdays or in the early morning.

From the park you can also walk directly into the forest or take the Pieterpad on. Here you can set your own pace and enjoy the silence that makes Drenthe so special.

🪑 Small museums and culture at your own pace

If you want to combine culture with tranquility, Drenthe is the place to be. The Open Air Museum Ellert and Brammert offers plenty of space and overview, allowing you to look around quietly even on busier days. In Orvelte, a monumental village a short distance away, you will walk past old farms, craft stores and small exhibitions, without mass tourism.

These spots are ideal for guests who want to see and learn something, but do not want to stand in long queues.

🌾 Brink villages and rural break spots

Drenthe is known for its brink villages, where time seems to stand still. Villages such as Gees, Anloo and Noord-Sleen lend themselves perfectly to a short walk and a cup of coffee on a quiet terrace. Especially outside the high season, it is pleasantly quiet and personal here.

Combine a village visit with a short hike or bike ride and you have a relaxing day without a rush.

🏖 Nature and water, but quietly

Instead of crowded recreational lakes, there are smaller, natural places in Drenthe where tranquility prevails. Think of quiet little fens in the woods or swimming lakes where you will meet mostly locals. Early in the morning or later in the day, these spots are often almost deserted.

1. Pieterpad: Schoonloo → Sleen (approx. 18-24 km, red-and-white marked)

Start: Hoofdstraat 16, 9443 PA Schoonloo
End: Brink, Sleen (public transport stop available)
Starting in Schoonloo, you will walk through the woods and dirt paths of the Sleenerzand, past ash fields, wooded banks and later the brink village of Sleen. Along the way, forest, heath and open fields alternate – perfect for autumn colors and photos. You can shorten the stage by boarding the bus in (North) Sleen.

2. Sleenerzand: Juniper route & around Kibbelkoele (4-8 km, pole routes)

Start/parking: P-place De Kibbelkoele, Noord-Sleen
In autumn you will see many mushrooms, juniper bushes and yellow-red leaf tunnels here. At the spot, choose the shorter or longer loop (pole routes). The little beach at the Kibbelkoele is a nice place for a break with thermos. With children, this is an accessible, varied route.

3. Orvelte: Boswachterspad Oer ‘t Veld or “Weg van Orvelte” (5-12 km, red pictogram/variants)

Start/Parking: Orvelte Visitor Center (Brink/De Bruntingerhof)
You walk through the historic esdorpen landscape: cart tracks, wooded banks and the Orvelter sand. In the village of Orvelte, the autumn atmosphere is extra special: cobblestone streets, old farms and local stores. Choose the Boswachterspad Oer ‘t Veld (with GPX download) or the atmospheric Weg van Orvelte (various lengths).

4. Forestry Gees: quiet autumn loop (12-17 km, loop)

Start/parking: P-place Geeserbosweg (small), or alternatively at Gees
This is one of the quietest hiking areas in the region. You walk through pine forest, along fens and the stream valley of the Geeserstroom. In the early morning you have a chance of seeing roe deer. Choose a loop of about 12.5 km (with GPX download) or the longer “Way of Gees” (about 17 km).

5. Strubben-Kniphorstbosch: prehistory & autumn light (5-9 km, marked)

Start/parking: P-place Anloo (Drentsche Aa, near information panel)
You walk through a unique archaeological reserve with two dolmens, burial mounds and characteristic oak avenues. In autumn the low light provides beautiful vistas. The route is well marked and can be shortened as desired (±5 km) or walked as a 9 km loop.

Practical & cozy

Dogs are welcome in many areas (usually on a leash; check local signs). In autumn, bring a thermos and wear waterproof shoes. Before or after the walk, the village of Orvelte is atmospheric for coffee and something tasty; you’ll also find cafes and bakeries in (North) Sleen and Borger. Hiking and then warming up in your holiday home
